How to Turn Your Windows XP Desktop to a Mac Desktop: 8 Steps

APPLE\'S MAC OS X desktop is widely considered to be cleaner, more intuitive, and more customizable. The following instructions will show you how to get that Mac look for your PC by installing some cool, FREE, and risk-free applications. _The photo at the left is a current desktop. Just follow the steps below, and you can have the same or even better desktop in no time!_
STEPS
_ 1REMOVE ALL UNUSED ICONS AND SHORTCUTS. Right click on your desktop and hover on "Arrange Icons By_" and uncheck "_Show Desktop Icons_." After doing this, you should have a completely clean desktop, with your wallpaper left.
_ 2MOVE THE TASKBAR. Right click on the taskbar and uncheck "Lock the Taskbar_" and click the taskbar and drag it to the top of your screen. Right click on the taskbar and check "_Lock the Taskbar_."
_ 3CHANGE YOUR WALLPAPER. This has 1 package and this has 3 packages. After downloading any of the packages, extract the files. Open the folder containing the backgrounds and right click the background of your choice and click "Set as Desktop Background_"
_ 4INSTALL RKLAUNCHER. RKLauncher is a program that closely resembles the Macintosh taskbar, with the mouseover effect(zooming). For the complete look, download RealDock which is a theme for RKLauncher with up-to-date icons. Click here to download RealDock. When extracting the files, and it asks you if you want to write over some files click "Yes to All_"
_ 5GET SAFARI FOR WINDOWS SAFARI IS THE DEFAULT WEB BROWSER OF APPLE, WHICH IS NOW AVAILABLE ON WINDOWS, TOO. Download Safari 3.1.1 here.

DOWNLOAD THE MAC THEME FIRST DOWNLOAD THIS PATCH. And now, download the Mac theme here. After downloading the Mac theme, open the "SS_" folder, double click "_SS_", and click "_Apply_."
_ 7CHANGE YOUR MOUSE POINTERS FOR THE FULL EFFECT, DOWNLOAD A NEW SET OF MOUSE POINTERS. To install these mouse pointers, click "Start_", "_Settings_", "_Control Panel_", "_Mouse_", "_Pointers_", and browse for the Mac Cursors to each cursor type (e.g. 'Normal Select').
_ 8ADD WIDGETS(OPTIONAL) WIDGETS ARE DESKTOP TOYS_ TO ENTERTAIN AND TO INFORM. Think of them like things you'd put on a real desk: a picture frame, a newspaper to a dancing hula girl! But they're on your PC desktop, not your real desk. You'll get it once you see it. They could be a fun addition to your boring computer. Download free widgets from the Yahoo! Widgets page. You'll download a widget machine called Yahoo! Widget Engine, which comes with widgets like a picture frame, analog clock, calendar, and weather display.
